Radon maps of Finland
Radon maps of Finland
The radon maps of Finland are based on measurements conducted in low-rise residential buildings by STUK, using radon measurement boxes. STUK has been looking for high indoor air radon levels in co-operation with the municipal health authorities since 1986.
If several measurements have been conducted in the same dwelling, such as before and after radon mitigation measures, the highest measured concentration is included.
So far, approximately 113,000 dwellings have been measured. Of these, 104,000 have been located and taken into account in the maps.
The lower the outdoor temperature, the higher the radon concentration usually is. The annual radon concentration averages in the maps were calculated by subtracting 15 per cent from the result of measurements conducted in winter.
