Environmental radiation
STUK monitors radioactivity in the environment in many ways. The objective is to be constantly aware of the levels of radiation exposure to people and the environment in Finland.

See radiation today
There is an automatic external radiation monitoring network in Finland that includes 255 measurement stations. The measurement data is updated on the STUK website once an hour.

Radioactive materials in outdoor air
STUK monitors the levels of radioactive substances outdoors at eight localities in Finland.
Measurement data Monitoring of environmental radiation
In Finland, the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority is responsible for nationwide environmental radiation control. Information on the annual environmental radiation control programme and subprogrammes can be found in the STUK supervises section.
Radioactivity in the Baltic Sea
Finland has been a forerunner in the monitoring of radioactivity in the Baltic Sea. Radioactivity surveys were initiated as early as the end of the 1950s by STUK’s predecessor Institute of Radiation Physics in co-operation with the Finnish Institute of Marine Research.
