Appliances

All radiation appliances in use must be suitable for their purpose and compliant with the valid regulations and requirements.

The manufacture and placing on the market of radiation appliances are subject to product criteria, and their use is subject to in-service acceptability criteria.

The party that manufactures the radiation appliance and places it on the market is liable for ensuring the safety of the appliance and for demonstrating its compliance. The responsible party is liable for ensuring that the radiation appliances and associated equipment in use are safe, in compliance with the regulations and used in a safe manner in premises that have sufficient radiation shielding.

The radiation appliances and other radiation sources must be supervised during their use. Sufficient quality assurance and periodic maintenance procedures must be in place. If any faults or deviations that compromise safety are identified, they must be corrected without delay.
