The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) has received the periodic safety assessment on the Loviisa nuclear power plant units (LO1 and LO2) of Fortum Power and Heat Oy, which must be prepared at least every ten years according to the Nuclear Energy Act.

With the safety assessment, Fortum must demonstrate that the operation of these nuclear power plant units is and will be safe until the end of their planned service life and that the power plant units meet the requirements set by the safety regulations. Delivering the safety assessment to STUK is a prerequisite for the continued use of the plants until the end of the operating licence. The operating licences of Units 1 and 2 of the Loviisa nuclear power plant will expire in 2027 and 2030.

The processing of the delivered material in STUK, including the plant inspections, is estimated to last until 2022, when STUK will make a decision on the now delivered safety assessment.
