Disposal repository

The final disposal facility comprises an underground final disposal repository excavated at a depth of about  half a kilometre and an encapsulation plant constructed  above ground level. Once all spent nuclear fuel is disposed of and the encapsulation plant decommissioned, the land area can be returned to a natural state.
