Press release

STUK International Ltd’s Board of Directors has appointed Pekka Ottavainen, M.Sc., Engineering, as the company’s CEO starting from 1 May 2017. The new company, wholly owned by the State of Finland, operates globally and provides expert services that improve nuclear and radiation safety.

“Ottavainen has solid expertise in founding a new growth company as well as in international sales and marketing. He comes to the company from FinNuclear ry where he was involved in launching the Finnish export network in the nuclear energy sector,” says Ilona Lindholm, Chairman of the Board.

The company manages service projects and purchases the relevant subject expertise from outsourced providers. The expertise will mainly be sourced from the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) but can also be supplied by other sector providers.

“STUK International Ltd works in close cooperation with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. The new company has an advantage over an authority because it can better react to the clients’ needs and respond to international competition. It offers an opportunity to do business and develop nuclear and radiation safety expertise also in Finland. The finances of the company and STUK are clearly separate. The company’s operations do not affect the authority’s independence or activities in Finland,” adds Petteri Tiippana, Board member of STUK International Ltd and Director General of STUK.

“STUK International Ltd enables us to improve nuclear and radiation safety in countries that need improvement in this field but do not yet have sufficient expertise for it. This task is extremely significant for me and I look forward to being able to build cooperation among different actors,” comments CEO Pekka Ottavainen.
