Radionuclide Analytics

The laboratory measures activity concentrations of environmental samples and takes care of sealed sources of low and medium activity waste.

The laboratory provides analysis services both for internal and external customers:

  • Gamma spectrometric analyses
  • Radiochemical analyses measured by liquid scintillation counters or using alpha spectrometry (e.g. tritium, Sr isotopes, U isotopes, transuranic elements, radon)
  • Radiation monitoring programme in the vicinities of the Finnish nuclear power plants
  • Sampling of environmental samples
  • CTBT laboratory analyses

The laboratory is responsible for quality and development of analysis methods and it also participates intensively in developing of the quality management system in the Research and Surveillance Department.  The quality management system consists of:

  • Accurate and fast analysis methods
  • Treatment methods for removing natural radionuclides in drinking water
  • Development and maintenance of quality system used at laboratory
  • Maintaining of measurement standards
  • Intercomparisons
