KETALE – a centralised data system for the management of dispersion and dose calculation results
Aim of the study
The basic objective is to design and build a data system for the management of various dispersion and dose calculation results and meteorological data, and for the fast preparation of situational analysis reports in an emergency.
Implementation
The work as a whole includes two basic tasks:
Defining the characteristics of the system. Among the requirements set are administration and management of dispersion and dose calculation data, easy creation of situational analysis reports, improvement of practical-level co-operation arrangements (e.g. data transfer) between STUK and Finnish Meteorological Instititute (FMI), and – to a certain extent – facilitation of the comparison of various calculation output data produced by different model systems. In addition, the system should serve various training and exercise purposes.
Realising the system. An approach based on web technology utilising a data base and open source software was chosen as the platform.
The first phase of the work was completed in late spring 2008 with the release of the first operational version of the system. The on-going second phase will by the end of 2009.
Dissemination and exploitation of the results
The deliverable of the project will enhance and improve the capability of Finnish authorities to respond to emergencies involving radioactive releases to the atmosphere. KETALE will be described in scientific conferences and in international journals. For the time being, KETALE-related presentations have been given at two conferences:
