European approach to nuclear and radiological emergency management and rehabilitation strategies (EURANOS)

EURANOS was an integrated project for development of European emergency preparedness under the 6th Framework programme of Euratom during April 2004- June 2009. It included several subprojects, and STUK was involved in many of them.

An overall goal was to harmonise the response to radiation emergencies in the member states of the European Union. Theresults of the EURANOS project were  planned to be used both nationally and organisationally by the European Commission.

More than fifty partner organisations of the EURANOS project represented the authorities and research institutes. Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH was responsible for the project coordination. The project is described at www.eurnanos.fzk.de and its contract number is FI6R-CT-2004-508843.

In the 7th Framework programme European Platform on Preparedness for Nuclear and Radiological Emergency response and Recovery (NERIS) has been activated in 2010 (www.eu-neris.net).
