Radon prevention in new buildings (RATURA)

Aim of the study

The study aims at disseminating the present knowledge on radon prevention to the use of local building authorities and builders.

Implementation

STUK has published complementing guidance for radon prevention in new buildings. This guidance will be revised and published as a STUK information leaflet. Construction professionals, local building authorities and private builders are the target group.

STUK takes the initiative to Building Information Ltd in order to update the present guidance (RT file 81-10791) including the complementing guidance.

As a separate task, STUK carries out a pilot study in single-family houses on the effect of passive ventilation stack coupled to radon piping installed beneath the slab. The study will be carried out using continuous radon monitors.

Dissemination and exploitation of the results

Publication of the revised complementing guidance and STUK information leaflet will take place on STUK web pages in 2009.
