To succeed as a radiation and nuclear safety authority, STUK needs information on the levels of radiation, the effects of radiation and on the prevention of detriments caused by radiation. This information is provided by more than 100 research projects. Among the research subjects there are, for instance, the biological effects of radiation, levels and prevention of natural radiation, radiation hygiene, radioactive substances in the environment and food, medical doses, measuring methods of radiation, and non-ionising radiation (radars, lasers, UV radiation, mobile telephones etc). In the research concerning nuclear safety, STUK's most important partner is the Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT. |
