Screenings involving radiation exposure

The decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on the medical use of radiation (423/2000) contains stipulations concerning the screenings involving exposure to ionising radiation. STUK checks and approves screening programs.

Screening other than that based on the Decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on the medical use of radiation must be rationalised and presented to the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health (STAKES) for evaluation. Screening can be approved if the benefit for the general health of the public outweighs the damage caused by these actions.

STAKES and the Finnish Cancer Register have issued instructions for giving screening-related information to the mass checking registry, which works in conjunction with the Finnish Cancer Register.
