The trade, import, and export of radioactive materials

STUK regulates the trade, import to Finland and export from Finland of radioactive materials. The Council Regulation 1493/93/Euratom is applied for the transfer of radioactive substances between the EU Member States.

In relation to this regulation, STUK confirms the document which the importer of the radiation source needs to give to the exporter to show that a safety licence exists. The needed document can be found here. STUK also receives and handles notifications from exporters about the importation of radioactive substance to Finland.

When necessary, STUK receives relevant information about radioactive substances imported to Finland from outside the European Union. This information comes from the customs authorities on the basis of the Radiation Act.
