Consumer goods that contain radiation sourcesSTUK’s market control is focused on products that are not generally inspected at the location of operation. Products in these kinds of markets are especially consumer goods which produce radiation or contain radioactive material. STUK works in cooperation with the Finnish Consumer Agency and Ombudsman when it comes to consumer goods and with TUKES when it comes to smoke detectors. The competent authority for market control of smoke detectors is TUKES. The organisation ensures that smoke detectors comply with the Rescue Act and regulations based on its requirements. The import of smoke detectors which contain radioactive material requires a safety licence granted by STUK, as well as, an additional approval of STUK for each product model brought onto the market.
