Classification of radiation work

In keeping with article 10 of the Radiation Decree, radiation work is classified as either A or B. Class A includes all employees who receive over 6 mSv effective dose. Read the specifics of classifying radiation work in STUK’s radiation safety guide ST 1.6.

Radiation workers who fall under class A must use dosimeter and doses must be determinated by an approved dosimetric service. Radiation workers who fall under class B are appropriately monitored the same way if exposure exceeds 1mSv per year.

In the European Union, the length of the monitoring period for class A employees is mainly one month. For other individuals, the monitoring period may be longer.
