A PC-based Monte Carlo program for calculating patient doses in medical x-ray examinations
PCXMC is a computer program for calculating patients' organ doses and the effective dose in medical x-ray examinations (radiography and fluoroscopy). The program incorporates adjustable-size paediatric and adult patient models, and allows a free choice of the x-ray examination technique.
The program is based on the Monte Carlo simulation method, and it is simple to use. The user only needs to enter examination data and the program takes care of other aspects of the calculation. The user interface includes graphic displays for visual checking of proper examination conditions.
PCXMC has been developed by STUK (Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland) for its own research purposes, but the program is also available for others at the price of EUR 580 (VAT not included). A free demo version of the program is available, and can be downloaded below.
